After the end of WW2, many acclaimed composers embraced this music idiom and the late 70's marked the breakthrough of modern jazz in Greece and the beginning of a remarkable discography. The development of music education with the creation of the jazz department at the Ionian University as well as the modern conservatories, has also played a very important role in recent years.
The journey of jazz in Cyprus began in the 60's after its independence.
